Travel Request Instructions

When released on a bond that includes travel restrictions, defendants must request permission from the Court to travel outside of the restricted area. Defendants should first contact their attorney and provide details of their intended travel. Attorneys should then contact the Assistant United States Attorney (AUSA) and the Pretrial Services Officer to see if either have any objections to the travel request. The attorney must then make a written request to the Judge, with details of the intended travel, including the purpose of the trip, specific dates, method of travel, accommodations, and the positions of both the AUSA and Pretrial Services Officer. A copy of this request should be forwarded to the AUSA and Pretrial Services Officer. A copy of the Judge’s decision on the requested travel should also be forwarded to the AUSA and Pretrial Services Officer.
