Location Monitoring

As an alternative to detention, the U.S. Pretrial Services Office operates a Location Monitoring Program.  The technology used includes Radio Frequency, Global Positioning System, and Voice Recognition.  These technologies may be used in conjunction with traditional methods that include curfews or 24 hour restrictions to the home.  Using location monitoring systems allows officers to manage the risks defendants pose to the community by verifying their location and subsequently their compliance with the conditions of supervision.

For leave requests or information, please contact the Location Monitoring Unit at (718) 613-2378, by facsimile (718) 613-2488, or by email: EMUnit@nyept.uscourts.gov

Important reminders:

  • All defendants must obtain approval from Pretrial Services prior to leaving home.
  • Mandatory notice/request within 48 business hours.
  • All court appearances and attorney visits to be made by counsel.
  • All other requests may be made by the defendant or, if applicable, by the medical professional.
